I'm late in welcoming the new year, eight days late, in fact!

However, with a new year comes new goals and resolutions, so here's hoping 2012 will be more productive than 2011. I've got a lot of writing projects I want to work on —  especially PRIDEA, the poor, neglected thing — but this year I'm going to be focusing on writing, writing and writing. It doesn't matter what I'm writing as long as I'm writing something (and no, roleplaying posts don't count, not really).

I've made it a goal to write 200,000 words this year — either in short stories or in Pridea — which will, hopefully, get my butt in gear! I've also made it a goal to at least submit something to devART at least once a month. However, I'm not going to be submitting Pridea excerpts to devART anymore. If I write excerpts, they'll be in my semi-private LJ, so I can keep track of who sees what and to make sure my novel ideas aren't being displayed to the world, haha.

If I submit writing to devART from now on, they'll  be for community prompts or contests. I want to get involved in the Lit community here on devART as well; if not a lot, then just by submitting writing to the various contests, prompts or events that are constantly going on around here. In short, I'm going to start wasting time. There's 365 days in a year (but I've heard this year is a leap year?), and I'm not planning on wasting a second!

I'm not here to talk about myself today. I wanted to  bring attention to the fact that my best friend, penguinpuffypants is opening up commissions! She's doing them for relatively cheap too - prices are negotiable, so you can always work something out.

Money from the commissions are going toward raising funds for a friend's family member who has just passed on, so all the proceeds will really be helping this family out. She's a fantastic artist as well, she can do some really great stuff!

If you can't commissions from her (no money, etc), I humbly ask that you pass along the news. Getting the word out would be very much appreciated!

Here's an example of some of the stuff she can do!

Things never work out as you plan, do they?

For the whole month of January, I was devastatingly ill, to the point where I was pretty sure that I was going to die, and didn't really have any qualms about it. I'm still not sure what happened - apparently my lungs... failed on me, making it ridiculously hard for me to breathe, or something... I won't go into the details, because, to be frank, I was too out of it when the doctor gave me her briefing to even know the details myself, but the good news is, in a nutshell: I'm back!

I'm a little ticked off - okay, very ticked off - about the horrible timing of the illness, mainly because my biggest goal for the new year was to write every day, and I basically wasted a whole month sitting in bed slurping orange juice, swallowing vitamin C tabs and puffing a busted inhaler. Plus, there were some contests I wanted to join that have come and gone. And to top it off, I've wasted a month of my Premium! Gah! At times like this, it just feels like there's a greater force here, working against me...

But anyway, all that's not important. What's important is: I'm back, and I'm hopefully fate will not intervene and ruin my plans again! Apologies for being absent for that whole month - I current have 5,442 messages in my inbox (which are mostly just group deviations, probably...) so I'll catch up with everyone eventually. In the meantime, how is everyone doing? Hopefully not getting sick like I was!

I've still got a lot I want to accomplish - 2011's the year I get my writing act together! Let's all work hard!

I know, normally I only blog once a month here on dA, but I have very awesome news to share! Thanks to a good friend of mine, Sceritz, I now have a Premium account for three whole months! Thank you so, so much, Sceritz, for this incredibly awesome gift! I really was surprised - possibly the most surprised I've ever been in a while, so again, thank you so much, Sceritz! This really means a lot to me!

It's funny, how an act of kindness can really inspire you to get going and start being more passionate about the things you hold most important to you - and to me, that's writing! I never really make a lot of News Year's Resolutions, but on the top of my list, my main goal for the year is to write, write, write! It's not like I don't have the tools to do so - devART really is a great place to write and get feedback, and so many people take the time to compile resources together in order to make it easier for people to get involved in the writing community - so what am I waiting for? It's time to get crackin'!

This year's going to be a brand new start to me - so I really want to have a healthy, running start. Every day, I should be reading and writing, and working to get better, instead of just thinking, "Meh, I'll start working on it tomorrow..." Because I've been on dA for two years, and my gallery is seriously lacking! Reading and writing every day - that's the key to success, I've just gotta buckle down and get into the habit! (I also should get into the habit of exercising every day... but that's neither here or there!)

For these next three months, and hopefully for the rest of the year and beyond, it's going to be my goal to get active, get involved in the writing community, and get writing! Again, I really want to thank Sceritz for this Premium Account - this is such a positive start to the year, you have no idea!

Expect activity from me! New stories (not Pridea pieces - I'm working out some kinks in the plot... yet again), features from writers (and artists) that have really inspired me since my time here... You just wait, it'll be awesome! Thank you, Sceritz, and thank you, to everyone's whose ever reviewed a work of mine, or commented, or just gave an encouraging word my way! You all mean a lot to me, you know?

Hey, whaddya know, another monthly update!

It's December, and there's a ton of stuff going on for me right now, as I'm sure there's a lot going on for the rest of you! I'm doing my own Christmas shopping this year, which has given me a new look on Christmas... It's all fun and games until you have to go out in the cold to bargain hunt! Besides Christmas, all of my Senior Project due dates are coming up, which means I'll probably be spending this December shopping, writing my research paper, putting together a visual aid for my speech, and finally, practicing my speech. At my school, Senior Project is a huge deal - it's either pass or fail... So let's hope I pass!

But I'm definitely not here to talk about myself (I've got a blog for that), I'm just here to give you guys an update on what's going on with my writing, of course.

The latest piece I've uploaded was Nightingale, which was Pridea excerpt. So far, it's probably the best chapter I've rewritten in this series. For one, I finally was able to work with the illustrious Chex Monroe, the character of penguinpuffypants, who's allowed me to use him in the novel. This permission was granted awhile ago, but I had never really made full use of it until she told me she wanted to finally see an excerpt with him in it. With her prompting, writing Nightingale turned out to be the best piece so far in the Pridea saga, so I definitely have her to thank!

Uploading Pridea pieces is always a double-edged sword: for one, they're always my best work, but some of the excerpts don't have the necessary background information in them for the pieces to be understand by the general public (that's you guys!) I love writing them, and to be honest, there's a lot more of them to come, but I've always got a ton of short stories (as in one-shots, they're over and done with in one pieces) and chaptered works (as in five or so chapters - longer than short stories, but they pack more punch) that I want to upload! I'm definitely not stagnant because of lack of ideas, but mainly because I'm working on getting my Senior Project over and done with, so I can graduate and not have to worry about it.

However, I do want to try uploading something before the month is over, so don't expect a month of inactivity from me just because I'm busy! After all, a writer doesn't let all the things in her way stop her from getting things done, right?

In case I don't see you guys until then, happy holidays!
